
Jackson Pollock was a highly influential American painter, born in 1912. He was the leading force behind the abstract expressionist movement in the art world. It is said that Pollock’s greatness lies in creating and developing one of the most radical abstract styles in the history of modern art. In 1947, he started laying canvas on the floor and pouring, dribbling, and flicking enamel paint onto the canvas. He disconnected line from color, redefined the categories of paintings, and invented new means to describe pictorial space.
The chosen painting, One: Number 31 is one of a three wall-size paintings that Pollock created in 1950. It is one of his largest paintings and is said to be a masterpiece of the drip technique. It is related to the Everyday, since it is a landmark in the history of Abstract Expressionism. Pollock has changed the view on the Everyday art.
